Atletico squad list for Madrid derby: Koke, Azpilicueta OUT

Diego Pablo Simeone is taking all healthy players to face Real Madrid this Tuesday. Atletico face the first leg of the round of 16 of the Champions League 2024-25 and in the call-up of the Argentine coach only two players who could hardly be expected are missing.
They are captain Koke Resurreccion and defender Cesar Azpilicueta. Both are suffering from muscular injuries and have not been able to return to Atletico's training sessions this week, so they were ruled out for this Champions League derby in Madrid.
Koke was injured against Celta Vigo, while the former Chelsea man picked up an injury against Valencia and the club confirmed a few days later that it was a full-blown injury. Their absences are notable in terms of the dressing room and rotation, but Simeone still has his first-choice eleven in the squad.
While waiting to know the line-up, the main doubts are in defence. If the one chosen to accompany Le Normand will be Gimenez or Lenglet, or if he will opt for Samuel Lino or Gallagher on the left flank as a defensive reinforcement.

Defenders: Jose Maria Gimenez, Clément Lenglet, Axel Witsel, Robin Le Normand, Reinildo, Javi Galan, Nahuel Molina.
Midfielders: Pablo Barrios, Gallagher, Rodrigo De Paul, Thomas Lemar, Marcos Llorente, Rodrigo Riquelme, Giuliano Simeone, Samuel Lino.
Forwards: Antoine Griezmann, Alexander Sorloth, Angel Correa and Julián Alvarez.
