Aston Villa are preparing to make their first move in the January transfer window as Fabrizio Romano reports that the Premier League club have initiated talks for Celta Vigo defender Oscar Mingueza.
The Spaniard, whose contract with the club, runs out in 2026 is said to be one of Unai Emery's main targets for the month. Romano reveals that conversations are still in the early stages as the deal is far from advanced.
Although Celta President Marian Mourino expressed his wish to keep Mingueza until at least the summer, Villa can force the move by triggering his €20m release clause. Should he be sold, 50% of the fee will go to his former club Barcelona.
The 25-year-old has impressed this season, counting two goals and five assists in 18 appearances in La Liga so far. He earned his first call-up for the national team in September and has been part of their two subsequent squads since.
