It is only a matter of time before Ronald Araujo puts his pen on the contract renewing his stay with Barcelona until June 2026. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Catalans have reached an agreement with the defender over a new deal as one final meeting has been scheduled to finalise everything.
Just last week, Araujo looked destined to move to Juventus as reports from Spain revealed that he had already communicated his wish to leave the club and join the Turin side, who were willing to meet the €50m asking price to buy him in January.
However, following the 'Azulgrana's Spanish Super Cup triumph over Real Madrid, the narrative shifted as sporting director Deco convinced the Uruguayan to reject the Italians' interest and stay at the club to fight for a starting place in Hansi Flick's lineup.
Araujo has missed the majority of the season after undergoing surgery for a ruptured hamstring tendon last summer but made his return earlier this month. Now, with the injury of Inigo Martinez, the centre-back is expected to see regular minutes on the pitch alongside Pau Cubarsi in the Barca backline.
